MK2Clone r3 !!

I’m BACK!

In general, I still do not have enough time, but! Probably I will never get bored of this hobby 🙂

As, probably, everyone knows already, the Original Prusa i3 MK3(S+) is slower than Prusa i3 MK2, but has a nice updates (the most important – removable printbed, and its quiet), and I still have a lot of different parts, and the frame from MK2Clone r2 – I decided to do a new build, mixing some different parts.

After reading a lot of information on the Internet, and after experiences with the MK2Clones, ultimately:

  • sensorless homing is just FUN feature, there is nothing wrong with classical endstops
  • missed step detection need a lot of time to prepare – and the benefits of its are just theoretical
  • quiet printer is a much better than a noisy one
  • removable print bed is very useful
  • bed leveling is a must, but I am not convinced if the inductive probe are the best for home-made printers

In conclusion – TMC2130 needs a lot of additional connections, but in this case gives only the sensorless homing. TMC2208 are better then, as those are controlling the motors in a way more sufficient for 3D printer. There is already TMC2209 and some TMC5xxx on the market, however, I do not see any benefits from them, and the TMC2208 are well tested by users already.

Removable print bed is – currently – easy to achieve, there are even MK52 clones available on the market.

Bed leveling – the BLTouch seems better option than the inductive probe – and it allows to use anything as a print bed, even – like a classic – printing on the glass.

Soooo, I want to MK2Clone r3 be at least as fast as Original Prusa i3 MK2, and be quiet at least as MK3 one 🙂
